Thoughts on Pat Symonds to Andretti?

As an American who has been watching F1 since the V8 era cars, I would hate to have to stop watching. However, if F1 can't stop being ridiculous then I will stop watching. I hope the rest of my country stops watching too until they stop with their nonsense and just let Andretti in. It would do nothing but benefit the sport, but corporate greed is getting in the way. If I were any good with social media and could gather a solid platform ad follower base, I would use it to convince all of my fellow American viewers to boycott the sport until they let Andretti in and I would make a petition for everybody to sign.

If this continues we will see Dan Fallows sent to the gallows by Lawrence Stroll

If it’s a B-spec car, won’t it take a few races to dial it in?

Why there no talk about the wind tunnel because look at Mercedes they both using the same wind tunnel maybe there something deeper than just the team.

The first thing AM have to do is get a better #2 driver ..... mini stroller is not that guy. TBH, mini stroller is not even fit for purpose as reserve driver in HAAS; Alpine or Williams. Get Bottas there or Liam Lawson perhaps.

*(Rant about AM's current performance in 2024, from a casual F1 fan's perspective.)* Aston Martin, you as a team (from Lawerence Stroll to the management team to the engineers hard at work improving the car) need to step up your A-Game. [after the summer break and 2025 pre-season and F1 Season]. I had high hopes for you as another British team *since 2021 (when you bought Racing Point)* to regularly compete for podiums, top 5 finishes and occasional wins by strategy or pure luck [though I doubt it cus, *Max Verstappen.* ]. You had a competitive midfield car last year (8 podiums in 22 race entries)! One-third of the season, and imo right now this is *beyond woeful.* (Sidenote: Haas, Alpine, Williams and Sauber, you guys aren't scot-free) Honestly guys, *please get your act together.* I'm always hoping for another season like 2012 (6 different drivers from 5 different F1 teams winning a race in that single season, *in a row).* I *love competition, teams fighting it out for the coveted WDC trophy come Abu Dhabi or Brazil (that's how I got into F1),* and this is *just not it.* If you don't step it up come Monaco or British GP or after the summer break (at least top 5 finish in one of the next few races before summer break after the completion of Spa), *I don't know if I can support you anymore.* I sincerely hope that this performance from AM (and other teams like Alpine, Sauber [2026-Audi], Haas, Williams and VCARB tanking to develop their car early for next year) isn't part of their current and long-term roadmap because *HOT TAKES for AM (maybe/maybe not, we'll see):* - Drive to Survive *will eventually* get cancelled by Netflix (because viewership will tank yr-on-yr if the narrative stays the same *[Max Verstappen dominating, occasional podiums from other teams, and Max Verstappen taking the title, rinse and repeat]* and it's boring imo for US audience fans who used to see *different teams win in American Sports* like NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc). - AM might not be able to compete for F1 WDC come 2026/2027, and *AM gets sold to another investor/manufacturer come 2030/2035.*

Alonso chacha should have waited to renew his contract and announce it!

They should make updates for Alonso and not try to please Stroll jr. Every time they bring a update Alonso gets slower.

Aston falling behind the mercs, windowlicker outperformed Alonso.. It will be interesting to see how he and AM do the next 5-10 races.

Reason why Aston Martin is going backwards is because they are going with the “expertise” of lance stroll instead of Alonzo 🤦🏾‍♂️

The fact Seb did not name his 2022 car should have been a red flag immediately, the more I started thinking about it the more sense it makes.

I was surprised how well Aston Martin did in 2023. A team built around Lance Stroll, with a team manager being a paid mouthpiece for a delusional billionaire. I'm also not sure how long Fernando Alonso can hang on considering his age. Sadly RB can't catch Aston Martin for 5th because they won't get red of Daniel Ricciardo. He should be gone.

Tbf Lance has had his stint of good driving quite early this year. Let's see if this will be the usual three race period or something more

Well he did crash in FP3 which hurt this qualifying so his race was already compromised before it even really started. The fact that they can't bring upgrades that improves the car is a true problem since it's for the second season in a row.

This is affirming the confession that the team made that the operation built entirely around the Strolls. Room for reasonable doubt is shrinking and it looks increasingly plausible that the upgrade package is being catered towards Lance instead of optimising for pace & consistency.

First timed lap of Q3 Verstappens sector 1 (without the already overhyped tow) was still fast enough for pole.

I heard some news that Alonso and AM were treating the race as a test and running equal stints on each compound to learn where the gaps are between the wind tunnel and the race track.

Mercedes and Aston Martin are the new Alpine.

If it’s all about the bosses son then I’m sure their building the car around lance if anything more so Alonso and what he prefers. Sure this thought is a bit out there, but it could be something they’ve been doing to make lance not look as bad. If they made the car awesome and Alonso is constantly at the top and lance is at the bottom. It could add even more pressure on papa stroll with the investors , but Them being equally as “bad” can buy them a little bit more time and could give them more wiggle room to say we’re still figuring it out .because now it’s just them struggling as a team vs just the bosses son.

I don't see a quick mclaren recovery considering that is mclaren we are talking about. Aston Martin is a relatively new reality that grew too fast and a thing that doesn't work is Lance Stroll that is maybe on par with Sargeant but nothing more. You can rule a team with the iron fist, but you cannot cover the deficiency of your son, Lawrence is wasting money.

The fact that Lance is still there after his constant mediocre performances says everything about the team right now. If they were serious they would have found a new driver that can perform consistently and pull as much performance as possible out of the car, like Fernando. I worry that they are favouring Lance over Fernando and aren’t even using any of Fernando’s feedback. I feel like Lance would not give the same quality of feedback to the engineers which is why the car seems to be moving backwards in terms of upgrades. If Stroll Sr. really wants a championship winning team, he needs to identify roadblocks without bias.

Checo's sitting pretty right now, as long as he keeps 2nd in the drivers championship... All of that lost in one weekend for now. Curious if he can turn it around cause if McLaren & Ferrari keep this up I can see him end up 4th or 5th in the championship.
